Description
EDWARD ELGAR: Salut d’Amour
Arranged for bassoon quartet by Michael A. Grant
Elgar wrote ‘Salut d’Amour’ (‘Love’s Greeting’) in 1888, originally calling it ‘Liebesgruss’ because Caroline Alice Roberts (for whom the piece was written and presented as an engagement present) was fluent in German. The title was later changed to the French translation by Elgar’s publisher, who realised that this would help sell more copies of the work across Europe. It was originally written for violin and piano.
This arrangement can be performed as a bassoon quartet or (by eliminating the optional 4th part) as a trio.
