Description
EDVARD GRIEG: Norwegian Dance No. 2
Arranged for bassoon quartet by Michael A. Grant
Grieg’s four ‘Norwegian Dances’ were initially written for four-handed piano in 1881, although the composer soon re-worked them for piano solo as well. When composing the dances, Grieg took inspiration from Ludwig Lindeman’s collection of Norwegian folk melodies ‘Older and Newer Folk-Dance Music’. Since then they have been arranged for orchestra a number of times (notably by Hans Sitt), although Grieg abandoned his own attempt at orchestrating them.
This arrangement can be performed as a bassoon quartet or (by eliminating the optional 4th part) as a trio.
