CHARLES GOUNOD: Funeral March of a Marionette
Arranged for bassoon quartet by Michael A. Grant
‘Funeral March of a Marionette’ was originally written for solo piano, and was later arranged by the composer for symphony orchestra. It is most famous for its use as the theme tune to the television series ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’ (later ‘The Alfred Hitchcock Hour’). It is particularly popular among bassoonists because latter series of said programme featured an arrangement for 6 bassoons and 2 contrabassoons over the opening titles.
This arrangement can be performed as a bassoon quartet or (by eliminating the optional 4th part) as a trio.
